Zeppelin Systems is an exceptional German manufacturing company, which is perhaps not as well-known as it should be in the global rubber and tire industry. This iconic company was founded to build airships, by the legendary Count Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin in 1908, under the company name Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH. He then handed the entire company to the Zeppelin Foundation. The Zeppelin is a rigid airship created by Count Zeppelin, which was developed in 1893, and patented in 1895 in Germany and 1899 in the US. The airships were first flown commercially in 1910, though they will long be best remembered for their key historic role as bombers in raids over England during World War I. The airships were named Zeppelins after Count Zeppelin himself, as was the Foundation which still owns the current Zeppelin Group.
